Travelling to the UK
Travelling to the UK: Electronic Travel Authorisation
If you’re travelling to the UK for our conference and do not already hold a UK visa, you may need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
What is an ETA?
An ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK. It is required for many visa-exempt nationals and is linked to your passport. It is valid for 2 years, or until your passport expires.
Who needs an ETA?
You need an ETA if:
You are visiting the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, business, or short-term study.
You are from a country eligible for the ETA scheme.
You do not need an ETA if you:
Already have a UK visa or residence permit
Are a British or Irish citizen
Are transiting through the UK without passing border control
How to apply
Cost: £10 (increasing to £16 from 9 April 2025)
Time: Usually processed within 3 working days
Apply via the official UK ETA app (iOS / Android) or online
You’ll need:
The passport you’ll travel with
A photo of your face (can be taken during the application)
An email address and payment method
Each traveller, including children, must have their own ETA.
